Silicone-free Defoamers
Silicone-free defoamers are defoaming aids that achieve foam collapse by altering the rheological properties or surface activity of the coating system. Compared to silicone defoamers, these defoamers do not contain silicone, making them suitable for silicone-sensitive coatings and inks, avoiding the potential impact of silicone residues on coating quality. They work by optimizing the surface tension or rheological properties of the coating system, making it easier for bubbles to collapse within the coating, thus effectively eliminating foam and ensuring the uniformity and smoothness of the coating.
The main advantage is that they do not interfere with subsequent processing and performance of the coating. Silicone residues can affect the adhesion, gloss, or recoating performance of subsequent coatings, and the use of silicone-free defoamers avoids these problems.
However, their defoaming effect is generally not as efficient as silicone-based products. In coating systems with high foaming requirements, their defoaming speed and persistence may be relatively weaker. Therefore, in some applications requiring highly efficient defoaming, it may be necessary to increase the dosage appropriately or use them in combination with other types of defoamers to ensure optimal defoaming results.
